CoreLab Engineer - Benguerir

The Research Infrastructure Management Office is hiring an engineer for the CoreLab genomic platform. The UM6P CoreLab is a research and service-providing platform managed in a centralized and simplified manner to facilitate access to a wide range of technologies, expertise, and services offered to UM6P researchers and external clients. The life sciences CoreLab is part of a set of laboratories intended to support technical and scientific approaches in the fields of research and service providing.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Operation of the genomics platform:

• Ensure that instruments and software are functional.
• Supervise and execute routine operations.
• Guarantee the quality of data produced.
• Identification of needs, drafting of technical specifications, analysis of tenders, and testing of genomics platform equipment.
• Organization of sample collection and data processing.

Sequencing and genomic analysis:

• Conduct DNA and RNA sequencing experiments, qPCR, and qRT-PCR experiments; Design new experiments and appropriate protocols.
• Interpret results obtained.

Development of protocols and methods:

• Development and optimization of sequencing and genomic analysis protocols and methods.

Genomic data management:

• Management and analysis of genomic data produced by the platform.
• Use of bioinformatics tools to analyze sequencing data.

General responsibilities:

• Reception, processing, and classification of requests.
• Handling of samples to be analyzed: storage, conditioning, preparation, etc.
• Advice and guidance for users.
• Active involvement in various laboratory activities.
• Participate in the supply and stock management of genomic laboratory consumables (solvents, standards, small equipment, etc.).
• Apply health and safety rules relating to using chemicals, cryogenic liquids, and measuring equipment.
• Participate in the platform certification process.

Required Qualifications:

• Master/Engineer or PhD degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Molecular biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related field.
• Experience with various (DNA extraction, qPCR, qRT-PCR, microbial genotyping, plant genotyping, primer design, etc.).
• Knowledge and experience in bioinformatic tools related to DNA sequence analysis, BLAST, sequence and alignment and analysis, microbial identification, genotyping, phylogenetic tree generation, primer design.
• Familiarity with lab safety protocols and regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills (time and priority management)
• Excellent communication skills (French and English).
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
