About AgroBioSciences (AgBS) :

The AgroBioSciences (AgBS) program is a component of the Science & Technology pole of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). It constitutes a structure of higher education and practical-based research with a vision of solving real African agriculture challenges leveraging up to date science and technology.

Oriented towards Africa, AgBS acts in connection with a wide network of universities and research centers around the continent in order to link real field issues with up to date science.

 AgBS is composed of four main units:

•          School of Agriculture (ESAFE) which is oriented towards graduate studies, in linkage with specific African agriculture scientific challenges. Its vision is to have a recognized reputation in Africa with a strong E-Learning Platform. The majority of the ESAFE students comes from abroad, all around the continent. The ESAFE target is to reach around 1.000 full-time students by 2024.

•          AgriBioTek Research Center leverages up to date technologies in the service of African agriculture challenges. It is a multidisciplinary research center with the ambition to conduct relevant and cutting-edge research with a positive impact on the African agriculture. Job/Project description:

The AgroBioSciences Program (AgBS) at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is seeking a Microscopy. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining and operating the Live Imaging Unit of the Plant Pathology lab at UM6P. The Technician will perform a wide variety of lab management tasks related to experimental procedures involving microbiology, molecular biology and cell biology techniques to perform studies of plant-pathogen interactions.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • The selected candidate will be expected to:
  • Have knowledge on modern Plant Pathology
  • Prepare samples for the Plant Pathology Lab
  • Create and maintain comprehensive and up to date best practices and standard operating procedures for usage of the confocal microscope
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and alignments, perform any necessary troubleshooting and order and supervise use of supplies/consumables
  • Take initiative to improve work processes affecting the functions of the unit; anticipate problems and work proactively to resolve them
  • Ensure compliance with, scientific protocols, UM6P policies, regulatory agencies and, safety practices
  • Assume additional responsibilities to promote the imaging unit mission as needed

 

 

Education, qualifications and experience

  • Candidates should have a university degree in microscopy, engineering or in a related field.
  • Work experience in laboratory is required.
  • Previous experience in cytology research would be advantageous, but is not absolutely required.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with others in the pant pathology research group and outside.
  • Good knowledge of desktop software applications and of the English language is expected.
