Job description:

The International Water Research Institute (IWRI) at UM6P is recruiting a research assistant in materials science. The candidate will join IWRI and will have to work with a multidisciplinary team on a research project on locally sourced carbonized materials for solar-driven interfacial evaporation of saline water.



Key duties:

This research position includes:

  • A bibliographic part by conducting a state-of-the-art review on the subject, and
  • A lab experimenting part which includes:
    • Involvement in the development of the research plan, and identify local materials of interest to the topic.
    • Conduct the experiments, analyses, samplings, and any other task in relation with the research plan.
    • Collect, treat and interpret the generated data, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Be involved in other projects at IWRI.



Profil recherché :

Criteria of the candidate:   

The potential applicant must have a higher university degree (Engineering or MSc) in a relevant field (Materials science and engineering, process engineering, or desalination). Candidates with proven experience in hydrothermal carbonization are particularly encouraged to apply.




Ideal candidate should be strongly self-motivated, keen to innovate, can work well in an interdisciplinary research environment, and with rigorous work ethics. He/she should be able to deliver outputs (reports, presentations, and articles) in the targeted timeframes, and according to the international standards of excellence.

The skill set sought in an ideal applicant includes:

  • Good analytical skills, especially for materials’ characterization (FTIR, SEM-EDX, XRF, XRD, AFM, etc.)
  • IT knowledge, good skills using scientific software packages (e.g. Design of experiments, Statistica, Open-LCA, etc.)
  • English language proficiency
  • Good writing skills
