Job Title: Technician in Hydrogeophysics, and Hydrological Measurements

Job description:

The International Water Research Institute (IWRI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University invites applications for a technician in position specializing in the Hydrogeophysics, and Hydrological Measurements. 

This is a broadly defined position in the field of the applications of geophysics in hydrogeology. However, we particularly welcome applicants with skills and expertise in the following fields or related subjects that will complement IWRI’s research and field work :

  • Proficiency in using field equipment and measurement tools, such as groundwater sampling devices, water level recorders, flow meters, and geophysical survey equipment.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis software, including GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and specialized hydrogeological or geophysical software
  • Practical experience with fieldwork, including drilling, well installation, borehole logging, and groundwater sampling
  • Familiarity with hydrogeological or geophysical survey techniques, such as electrical resistivity, seismic, ground-penetrating radar, or magnetometry

Key duties:

Successful candidates are expected to:

  • Conduct groundwater level measurements and water quality sampling.
  • Perform geophysical surveys, including data acquisition and interpretation
  • Collect and record soil samples and geological data
  • Monitor and maintain field equipment and instruments
  • Assist in the installation of monitoring wells and piezometers
  • Conduct groundwater pumping tests to assess aquifer properties
  • Process and analyze field data, including the interpretation of geophysical data
  • Prepare technical reports, maps, and charts to present findings
  • Use GIS software to create maps and visualize geospatial data
  • Maintain organized databases and electronic records of field measurements
  • Assist in data quality control and data management tasks
  • Operate drilling equipment, geophysical instruments, and other fieldwork tools
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly
  • Assist in project planning and logistics, including site selection and data collection strategies
  • Coordinate logistics and schedules for fieldwork

About IWRI:

UM6P-IWRI International Water Research Institute is a new institute located in Benguerir. The institute is dedicated to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary education and research around water and climate.

The objectives are to conduct cutting-edge research where local themes are connected to global issues of water and climate, with a focus on:

  • Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
  • Development of water-related technologies (irrigation, water supply and sanitation, desalination, demineralisation, treatment and recycling for water reuse)

    • Floods (“Hydrometeorological” hazard)

  • Environmental Considerations and Sustainable development

Profil recherché :

Criteria of the candidate:   

  • Bachelor's degree or Technician degree in a relevant field, such as geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in the subject discipline
  • Experience with field measurements/activities, especially the drilling techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with the use of geophysical instruments (e.g. well logging, seismic methods, Proton nuclear magnetic resonance).
  • Familiarity with water resources issues in Morocco will be an added value.
  • Willingness to work independently and to collaborate with a diversified team by adopting a multi-disciplinary approach.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written are important. Fluency in French and English is preferred.
