Research assistant on “Crop growth and yield production of Cereal in Morocco”
Project description :
Due to the growing population rate that imposes a rising per-capita demand for cereal, the county is highly dependent on cereal imports. Moreover, there is high variability in the yield across provinces and a growing gaps between simulated yield and actual yields of farmers. Therefore, crop modeling could be used to quantify this yield fluctuation, determine the yield gaps, and define context-specific appropriate interventions to address the low yield problems. The candidate will work on several models that help to understand the factors which drive the yield gaps and to come up with decisions and recommendations for Moroccan farmers. This research will also serve as a baseline study for subsequent research in the domain of wheat production in Morocco.
Main responsibilities :
The selected candidates will be expected to :
- Extract and analyze the data for estimating and forecasting the yields of specific crops regions in Morocco by reviewing the literature and unpublished experimental data.
- Develop models following the experimental plan in Morocco
- Contribute to the overarching goals of the research project team
- Publish the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals

Profil recherché :
Criteria of the candidate
The potential applicants must have a higher university degree (MSc or equivalent) in a relevant field (agronomy, Modeling, biostatistics, and related fields), and the ability to complete the doctoral studies.
Skills
The skill set sought in an ideal applicant includes :
- Self-motivated with an interest in modeling, data science, and machine Learning.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as work in a diverse team is an added advantage
- Strong communication and organizational skills are highly desired.
- Very good level in English and French as spoken and written language
- Good writing skills
