Job Title: Research Engineer in Hydrological modeling

 

Area of specialization in IWRI: Hydrology, Remote Sensing, and Modelling

 Job description:

 

The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) invites applications for a research engineer within the International Water Research Institute (IWRI). The candidate will be a central team member, focusing on research, simulation, and developing new methods and strategies, especially for understanding and modeling hydrological processes. The main objective will be to analyze the hydrologic systems using or combining in-situ observations, climate reanalysis, and remote sensing techniques. This is for the general purpose of implementing processing schemes for integrated water management, starting from the supply regions in the highlands to the consumption and demand sectors over the lowlands.

 

The new hire will work on preprocessing multi-sources gridded data and analyzing long hydrometeorological time series. Additionally, the candidate is expected to develop hydrometeorological variables distribution schemes to produce continuous data series for hydrological applications.

Key duties:

 

The specific tasks to be performed include:

 

  • Processing and analysis of long-term time series of different sensors.
  • Handling large-scale meteorological datasets.
  • Running and calibration runoff related models.
  • Expertise in different GIS software.
  • In-depth knowledge of mountain hydrology and water resources principles
  • Demonstrated capability to complete high-quality research
  • Ability to learn new methods or skills to support IWRI projects goals and to conduct research on the topic.
  • Disseminating research results in academic journal papers and at conferences,
  • Collaborate with students, project team members, and institutional partners

 

Criteria of the candidate:   

 

 

 

Skills:  

 

  • Knowledge of snow hydrology and hydrological modeling,
  • Good skills in meteorological, and hydrological data processing and use,
  • Experience in GIS and remote sensing techniques and tools,
  • Knowledge of scientific computing environments (e.g. python, Matlab),
  • Good written and oral English language skills,
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an international and interdisciplinary team across institutes.
  • Ability to prepare professional reports and present findings to academic project partners at conferences and project meetings and write high-quality scientific publications.
  • Demonstrable experience on working in a multidisciplinary team environment, leadership abilities, and record of positive contributions in a team environment

Profil recherché :

Candidates should have:

  • Ph.D. in hydrology and remote sensing degree or equivalent in earth sciences, water resource management, or related disciplines,
  • Significant experiences in the required fields.
