Report to: Technical Manager / General manager
Entity: Africa Center of Manufacturing Excellence (ACME) is a Technology development platform focused on Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and automation and tooling
Mission: The Scientist contributes to the development and implementation of innovative research project within their area of expertise. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Design and lead research projects aligned with the department’s priorities.
- Support application for external funding and project proposal development
- Use technical expertise and knowledge of Design and manufacturing to develop concepts, design, manufacture, integrate and test prototyped solutions
- Provide deep subject matter and technical expertise for applied research projects
- Provide practical and industrial solutions for applied research projects
- Ensure execution of applied research projects in collaboration with faculty, staff and industry partners
- Attend meetings and presents project scopes, deliverables and metrics
- Participate in the technical evaluation of manufacturing equipment and provide recommendations for purchasing new machinery
- Prepares and implements action plans to launch and manage projects and assist Research Assistants, students in the preparation of materials and final reports
- Assist in the follow-up activities with industry clients or founders
- Present findings at internal and external events, including conferences and seminars
- Contribute the preparation and review of Standards Operating Procedures for the activities of the center
Profil recherché :
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A PhD in a relevant engineering discipline or a scientific field related to the center's activities, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in advanced manufacturing or applied research environments.
• Alternatively, a degree in mechanical engineering, electromechanics, electrical engineering, or a similar field, with at least 5 years of experience in advanced manufacturing or applied research, along with demonstrated expertise in industrial research.
• A proven track record in developing and executing R&D projects in areas such as Additive Manufacturing, Robotics, Design and Prototyping, Materials and Manufacturing, Advanced Automation, Mechatronics, Instrumentation, and Industry 4.0 is strongly preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse partners.
