The UM6P CoreLab is a research and service-providing platform managed in a centralized and simplified manner to make it easier to access a wide range of technologies, expertise, and services offered to UM6P researchers and external clients. UM6P Core Lab is currently looking for a characterization Specialist to join our team, contributing to CoreLab services. We are specifically looking for candidates who have a lot of experience in designing and doing experiments using XRD and XPS tools, and who are good at different things like preparing samples, creating tests and choosing methods, maintaining and fixing equipment, and using software well. Candidates with previous experience in an XRD and XPS lab are needed. Also, having experience with different development methods will be a plus. Strong communication and analysis skills are very important for this job, as they help a lot in doing the tasks well.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Receiving, processing, and sorting requests for characterization analysis
• Handling samples to be analyzed: storing, conditioning, preparing, etc.
• Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep quality control records to ensure efficient lab process management.
• Give expert advice and important recommendations based on gained knowledge.
• Perform analysis services, especially in the physical-chemical characterization of different materials, using XRD and XPS techniques.
• Create detailed characterization and analysis reports and ensure that experiments can be traced: organize and save data.
• Support researchers (Professors, PhDs, Post-Docs, and Scientists) and help their research activities in the best way by providing excellent analysis and expert service using different heavy equipment.
• Ensure strict following of occupational health and safety rules.
• Participate in and organize training and workshop programs on physical-chemical analysis techniques for other researchers.
• Work effectively as part of a team.
• Be actively involved in various department activities.
• Participated in managing the supply and stock of consumables for the characterization laboratory.
• Participate in the platform certification process.
• Participate in preparing department events (workshops, seminars, presentations)

Candidate Qualifications:

• Master/Engineer or PhD degree with at least 3 years of experience in Material Sciences, or a related field.
• Good at handling heavy equipment for material characterization.
• Strong teamwork skills, good problem-solving abilities, and a history of working well in teams.
• Familiar with lab safety rules and regulations.
• Excellent organizational skills (managing time and priorities)
• Excellent communication skills (French and English).
• Able to work both alone and with others.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to do many tasks without losing quality and accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
