Description de l’entité de recherche

The High Throughput Multidisciplinary Research (HTMR) laboratory aims for an interdisciplinary, diverse and cross-cutting approach to an entrepreneurial ecosystem directly related to its industrial and socio-economic environment in Morocco and Africa. HTMR provides highly automated and parallel approaches to the development of new materials and processes. HTMR allows scientists from all UM6P research community to develop automated workflows that ultimately increase precision and efficiency and reduces the time and cost involved in their development pathways. The wide expertise developed by the researchers working at the HTMR, plays a pivotal link between the initial proof of concepts and the consolidation of the results and their viability. Thus, the validation is monitored through design of experiments and optimization of workflows much more rapidly than conventional approaches.

The HTMR is a 100% Applied Sciences research laboratory, and is setting up its first targeted research projects around:

  • Metallurgy & anti-corrosion materials
  • Phosphates, intelligent fertilizers, silicon and fluoride-based materials
  • Energy storage (Electrolyte, Electrodes...)
  • Biomaterials and Industrial By-Products

Description d¢emploi

Corrosion and wear (erosion/abrasion) are two of the most relevant phenomena responsible for the degradation of metallic materials used in industrial equipment of many industries. High Entropy Alloys (HEA) are very promising materials to overcome these issues since the concept of high entropy introduces a new path of developing advanced materials with unique properties, which cannot be achieved by the conventional micro-alloying approach based on only one dominant element. The development of novel alloys needs the combination of experimental and theoretical methods in order to optimize research time and costs. This thesis project aims at designing and developing a novel wear-corrosion (and cost-effective) HEA. This type of alloy will be useful in numerous applications where simultaneous corrosion and wear resistance is needed, such as chemical plants, mining, marine energy devices, car motors, etc.



Specific objectives for the PhD candidate:


  1. Design of novel HEA using computational thermodynamics
  2. Development at the lab scale of the designed HEA having good abrasion and corrosion resistance
  3. Characterization of the microstructure, composition and type of phases
  4. Evaluation of the wear and corrosion behaviour

Profil recherché :

  • Applicants must have a degree in Engineering or Master's (or equivalent) in Chemistry and/or Physics of Inorganic Materials, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Engineering, physical-chemistry or another relevant field.
  • Knowledge on basic physical metallurgy
  • Knowledge on characterization of materials and related techniques.
