Job Title: Laboratory Technician

The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SUSMAT - RC) is seeking applications for an experienced laboratory technician. Candidates should hold a master’s degree or equivalent (bac +5) in the field of organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials science, or any STEM-related field with a proven experience as a laboratory technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for defining, monitoring, and implementing the day-to-day processes related to the management of SustMat laboratories and characterization platforms, assisting Ph.D. students and research scientists, and other service activities within the laboratory.

Under the responsibility of the SusMat RC director, the successful candidate is expected to:

• Plan, organize, and supervise the daily operations of analytical and testing laboratories.
• Assist in the design and execution of routine laboratory experiments according to standard procedures and the instructions of the team members,
• Ensure safety and good lab practices training for users,
• Make sure that all safety guidelines are always respected by users and maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Schedule the use of labs and equipment for the staff.
• Take care of the good operation and maintenance of the laboratories, and characterization platforms.
• Purchase lab supplies, prepare ordering lists and maintain the needed quantities of chemicals for normal operation.
• Maintain HSE standards, and handle HSE documents,
• Keep and archive all information and data collected in the lab.
• Be accountable for all aspects of the labs, including equipment (maintenance, calibration, and controls), software, supplies, and documentation.
• Assist in planning and monitoring the laboratory's annual budget.
• Create standard operating procedures for equipment.
• Develops policies and procedures to ensure effective sustainable improvement of the lab system of management.

The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat - RC) is a multidisciplinary research center engaged in the development of advanced biobased products and materials thereof using biotechnological, physical, and chemical conversion strategies and engineering processes (b) understanding and controlling their underlying specific functionalities and the structure-properties relationship acting over multiple length scales from the molecular, nano to the macro level and their cross-interactions and (c) utilizing the gathered knowledge and the invented materials to address key technological challenges in Morocco and African continent and assist the transition toward a green and circular economy.

1. Educational background:

• Master degree (bac+5) in chemistry, materials science or related area.

1. Experience and Skills:

• A proven experience as a laboratory technician and in team management.
• Familiar with organizational software including spreadsheets, SAP, and databases, to ensure the efficient running of the facilities of SusMat,
• Good understanding of organic synthesis, chemical analysis techniques and reporting standards
• Familiar with HSE standards
• Comfortable handling potentially dangerous chemical substances.
• Good knowledge of management systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices.
• Good command of English and French, both spoken and written
