Department: AgroBiosciences Program, Entomology laboratory, Sub-Program: Crop Improvement & Plant Health, College for sustainable agriculture and environmental sciences, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Benguerir, Morocco.
Position Duration: CDI.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Research engineer with a background in entomology. This position will be based at AgroBiosciences Program, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Benguerir, Morocco.
Project Background/Introduction:
Key duties:
The New Hire will be expected to:
- Conduct field layout, planting, and data collecting on designed experiments as well as field surveys.
- Assist in conducting research in the area of integrated pest management (IPM) on key insect pests of stable crops, cactus as well as other crops.
- Screening for resistance of breeding lines and germplasm accessions for key insect pests under field and controlled conditions.
- Conduct insecticidal activities using biopesticides or selective insecticides in vitro, greenhouse and in the field conditions.
- Conduct research on semiochemicals and chemical ecology of insects (VOCs extraction, insect behavior, design trapping…).
- Assist in the lab management (purchase of consumable, store, safety).
- Contribute to training and capacity building of students, trainees, visiting scientists and partners.
- Contribute to writing of scientific reports, and manuscripts for publications.
- Supervise daily labors working in the field and in the laboratory.
- Perform any other job assigned by the supervisor.
Profil recherché :
Criteria of the candidate
- MSc/PhD in entomology, biology, agronomy, or comparable
- Experience in IPM research on key insect pests of pulse and cereal crops and cactus
- Experience in biological control (Bio-pesticide, Volatile organic compounds, entomopathogenic agents)
- Knowledge on experimental designs and statistical analysis relevant to Plant Protection.
- Experience in rearing of key insect pests of different crops.
- Record of scientific publications related to cereal, legumes, and cactus insect pests.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of Arabic and/or French desirable.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.
- High motivation, teamwork capabilities, and communication skills.
