Areas of research and Expertise

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) is seeking a highly qualified Senior Scientist specializing in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy. The ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in:

  • Advanced mineral processing techniques,
  • Process development for complex ore beneficiation
  • Process simulation and modeling,
  • Geometallurgy
  • Hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy
  • Ore characterization and beneficiation,
  • Waste management and recycling of mineral resources,
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly extraction processes,
  • Analytical techniques for mineral and metal analysis,
  • Development of novel methods for the recovery of critical and strategic metals

Job Description

The geology and sustainable mining institute at Mohammed VI polytechnic university invites applications for a full-time permanent position in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.

We seek candidates with a strong research focus on mineral processing techniques, including flotation, gravity separation, magnetic & electrostatic separation, coupled with expertise in process development for complex ore beneficiation and extractive metallurgy, along with skills in geometallurgy and simulation.

The Senior Scientist in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy will be responsible for:

  • Leade cutting-edge research projects focused on mineral processing and metallurgy,
  • Innovate and implement novel extraction and processing methodologies.
  • Foster collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Secure research funding through grant applications and industry alliances.
  • Mentor graduate students and junior researchers, fostering their professional growth.
  • Optionally, deliver advanced courses in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
  • Disseminate impactful research outcomes through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Contribute to shaping the institute's research direction and strategic planning.
  • Advocate for sustainable practices within mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
  • Translate research insights into actionable solutions in collaboration with industry stakeholders.

The selected candidate will actively participate in funded research projects aimed at enhancing our understanding of beneficiation pathways for valuable ores, including phosphates, potash, and other critical mineral resources. They will lead efforts to develop efficient processes for enriching valuable ores.

 

 

 

 

Profil recherché :

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in mineral processing, metallurgical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field,
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy,
  • Proven track record of securing research funding,
  • Experience in supervising graduate students and leading research teams,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices in mineral processing and metallurgy,
  • Good background in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy techniques,

Preferred qualifications

 

  • Experience in developing and commercializing new technologies for mineral processing and extractive metallurgy,
  • Familiarity with life cycle assessment and environmental impact of mineral processing activities,
  • Active participation in professional organizations and conferences,
  • Strong network within the mining and metallurgy industry,
  • Expertise in digitalization and automation of mineral processing operations,
  • Experience with hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes,
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment,
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and work effectively in a team,
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills.
