I. Subject description
African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University – Laayoune, is seeking applications for a PhD student in the field of Bioprocesses and Biorefining.
Candidates should hold a master’s degree (Bac +5) in Environmental sciences, Biotechnology, or Biomass valorization (or equivalent). The successful candidate will be responsible for executing scientific research, related to fermentation, pretreatment, biomass valorization, and identification/quantification of high added value product. As a PhD student, the successful candidate will be working in a project supported by Phosboucraa Foundation, gathering 3 partners.
II. Key duties
Successful candidate is expected to:
? Have a good experience in fermentation process.
? Have a good experience in organic matter characterization and microbiology.
? Provide original experimental design for the ongoing scientific project.
? Collect, support, and process samples for routine laboratory tests.
? Perform data analysis and publish the results of personal and sponsored research in international journals refereed by his/her peers.
? Strong French and English communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
III. Criteria of the candidate
? Master’s degree in Environmental sciences, Biotechnology, or Biomass valorization from a recognized University.
? Strong laboratory skills, ideally with skills in Bioprocesses and Biorefining.
? Experience in conducting experimental research around biomass valorization through fermentation.
? Experience with new protocols, design and troubleshooting experiments and interpretation of data.
? Positive working attitude and ability to work both in a team and independently.

The African Sustainable Agriculture Research Institute (ASARI) is a component of the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Laayoune City, south of Morocco. It constitutes a structure of applied research with a vision of solving real Local, Regional, and African agriculture challenges leveraging up-to-date science and technology.
