UM6P CEDOC-IS&T: Physico-chemical and analytical study of the adsorption and desorption of metals by - Benguerir

The subject of the proposed doctoral thesis aims to develop, for a high performance and high added value application, solid supports (Resins and biopolymers,etc…) and that do not present toxicological risks and that are totally biosourced. It should be obtained via a synthesis inspired by the principles of "green chemistry", from biosourced precursors, without intermediates or toxic products.

This work will include an important component aiming at the elaboration of materials having specific properties to the applications such as adsorption and desorption of metals, fire retardancy, and the study of the relations between composition, structure, morphology and mechanical and thermal properties of the obtained composites. Characterization methods allowing to discriminate the elaborated materials will also be developed.

A wide range of analytical methods will be used to understand the different aspects of the project (sourcing of prepolymers, physico-chemical and structural characterization of the products at different stages of their elaboration, thermal and mechanical properties)

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will carry out duties to the highest standard and will:

- Undertake original research on developing new ceramic and cementitious materials formulations

- Participate in the common tasks and experiments of the laboratory.

- Carry out data collection, analysis, processing, and interpretation.

- Assist in the co-supervision of master students.

- Writing reports and original articles.

Required profile

- Master’s degree student or engineer in civil engineering, materials science, chemistry or related field.

- Strong background in civil engineering, ceramic synthesis and formulation techniques.

- Solid knowledge of physical and chemical characterization techniques of materials including XRD, XRF, SEM, FTIR, ICP, etc.

Associated Skills

- Proven internship experiences in industrial sites or academia are highly appreciated.

- Good writing and communication skills in both English and French languages.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

- Good organizational skills.

- Proficient laboratory skills, including health and safety protocols.

- Strong desire to develop new concepts and industrial solutions.
