The thesis work intends to develop thin film for high voltage cathodes materials used in Li-ion batteries, utilizing physical vapor deposition (PVD) and plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) methods. The cathode active materials' surfaces will be modified using thin films, which will result in high ionic and electronic conductivities and fast redox behavior. These thin films will also enhance the cathode material's electrochemical characteristics, such as rate capability, calendar and cycling stability, as well as preventing the cathode from side reactions. In addition, the features and easily tailored thickness, morphology and chemistry of the created thin films, along with their processability, which may be attained utilizing a number of up-scalable techniques, will play a role achieving a conformal coating of the active material in Li-ion batteries.
DUTIES:
• Review the literature and identify the state of the art
• Display initiative in identifying and resolving problems relating to the research topic
• Fulfil tasks required by the supervisors to accomplish the project’s objectives
• Synthesis and characterization of thin film materials using deposition techniques such as physical and chemical vapor deposition
• Study the structural, morphological, and mechanical properties of materials using appropriate techniques
• Fabricate and test battery prototypes with the developed materials
• Stability testing using advanced in situ techniques
• Prepare articles for publication in leading journals and contribute to research dissemination at national/international conferences
• Communicate progress and results of research activities to the project team
REQUIRMENTS:
The ideal candidate possesses a Master degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, or related fields, wich good knowledge of solid-state materials physics, chemistry and solid-state characterization techniques. Prior experience in lithium-ion batteries and electrolyte design is an advantage. A very good command of English and French both orally and in writing is mandatory.
